Do you know someone whose personality has changed due to an extreme experience such as war, a severe accident, rape, or natural disaster? Is it a friend or family member? Is it an acquaintance? Is it you? In the past few years, many individuals have become aware of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and are seeking treatment. Several symptoms indicate the possibility of PTSD. Are you experiencing nightmares about a traumatic event that you experienced? Do you wake up in a cold sweat feeling total fear and panic? Do you have thoughts of the traumatic event that always seem to be in your mind, no matter how hard you try to forget? Do you have outbursts of anger and rage over minor details or events? Maybe you have started to ask the question “Am I crazy?” privately in your own mind. [Note: An official diagnosis can only be made by a licensed mental health professional or physician.] If you have recently been diagnosed with PTSD, you might have questions and be unsure how to go about getting better. “A Mind Frozen in Time” is a book for survivors of traumatic experience and their families. It is designed to function as a guide to PTSD recovery. Through it, a person can gain practical information about PTSD and learn ways to cope more effectively. The good news is that there are answers to the confusing symptoms of PTSD, and it is possible to get better. It is my hope that readers of “A Mind Frozen in Time” will find answers to their questions about PTSD, learn effective coping skills, and realize hope and meaning in their lives once again. If you are struggling with PTSD symptoms, I wish for you the best on your journey of recovery.

Traumas are inherently confusing experiences. The person was not prepared for what happened, and they walked away from these experiences in a state of fear, feeling overwhelmed, and asking themselves “What just happened?” or “Did that really happen?” For individuals who go on to develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, the person’s efforts to cope after the trauma often result in numerous problems and can lead to a complete disruption of their life. At this point, we ask the question, “What do you do, when you don’t know what else to do?” This is usually where many individuals find themselves at the beginning of treatment – confused, demoralized, and desperate. Many have said, “I guess this (therapy) is my last chance before I go kill myself.” The good news is that thousands of people have found hope, answers, and reasons to live again. Recovery is possible and realistic. |
